Final Project-After Development

Los Angeles, London, Paris, Shanghai, Tokyo. There are countless big cities in the world.

Modern facilities, dazzling neon lights, and busy cities, when we enjoy these, have we noticed some neglected areas in the city? resident

Urban development is an irreversible torrent, the torrent rolls forward, should we look back and see everything rolled up by the torrent? In the process of urbanization in the future, what kind of emotions should people use to view everything in the city? Or is it just like in the past, selectively ignoring everything?

After development, what have we gained and what has been lost?

This project is designed through experimental publishing design, objectively, and from a third-person perspective, to present to the audience these areas that are neglected in urban development. I hope to reflect with the audience on everything that urban development has brought to people, whether good or bad; in the process of future urbanization, how should we look at these neglected areas and the emotions held by their residents?

The source of the topic selection for this project is my personal experience. I find that people have different relationships with each other in different cities and even different regions; the environment also makes me have different emotional experiences.

Why does this difference occur?
Relevant vocabulary was searched on the Internet.

Based on the extracted keywords, I try to find some sources of inspiration for further investigation and analysis.

Based on the Moodboard I made, I found that just titled “Urbanization” was too big. So I did Brainstorming to make this topic more figurative. In the end, I decided to start with areas of the city that are often overlooked, such as immigrant areas, or old industrial areas, or even Deprived areas.

Field research

After determining the direction, I went to different cities to conduct field research, took some photos, and interviewed some residents. Such as Barking in London, and Birmingham.

After Primary research, I discovered that these areas are quite different from what I initially imagined. The residents here appear to be more dynamic, although the environment will be very restrictive.

In the process of secondary research, I read some related books, such as related theories of psychogeography, and Banksy’s works of art.
