Project 2 Publishing Forms
Project 2 is the design of the publication, the theme I got was Parables by KAE Tempest. This is a song, but without a melody, it can be understood as a rap. First of all, I analyzed its lyrics, and watched tempest’s live performance many times, and analyzed the central idea expressed in this song.and extracted several keywords.

In the process of analysis, I roughly divided the lyrics into three chapters, and planned to classify the chapters for subsequent books. Although this song does not have a melody, the melody that should be in the book is roughly arranged through the changes in the expressions and movements of the tempest during the performance.

After analyzing the content of keywords and lyrics, I extracted several central ideas. They are anti-consumerism, critique of the bourgeoisie, and anti-stylism. Through reading materials and books, I found several similar theories for these central ideas.

Ultimately I think constructivism ideas best express the anti-bourgeoisie that tempest wants to express. Anti-consumerism was mentioned in the original constructivist thought. Constructivism does not require extra decoration and emphasizes functionality, so I think the use of constructivist visual presentation forms can better convey ideas.

After a simple plan for the book, I chose the contemporary HELVETICA font, because it is a sans-serif font, the same era, and has the characteristics of modernism. The book is presented in the form of a booklet, with a size of about 100*210mm and about 28 pages. Then a simple sketch was drawn to facilitate the subsequent typography design.

The grid system is delineated, the top is narrow and the bottom is wide, and some grid attempts are made.

Then I drew up the layout sketches and thought about how to focus on the presentation in the book. For example, using acrylic to accentuate constructivism design features.

After the visual experiment, I spent some time trying to adjust the details in the book and made several revisions. The above is a comparison display before and after the revision.
