Project-04

Weather APP

Background

The aim of this project is to provide opportunities to engage in an individual design challenge at a level of lo-fidelity prototyping – these include wireframing of information architecture and information design and the use of physical paper-based mock ups to test design ideas.

Context

The main target users of this project are skiers and other mountain sports enthusiasts -smartphone users. I have been involved in the early design phase of weather applications (such as iPhone) that will run on mobile devices (that is, smartphones). Initial user research has been carried out and potential target user groups are already ascertained and agreed.

Problem statement

Users who choose any kind of mountain sports need a way to find easy-to-understand and reliable predictions before starting to exercise, because they need to make wise and safe decisions about the day’s activities.

Low Fidelity Wireframes

I started with pen and paper wireframes created versions for each screen until I found a combination of functions that I thought met the needs of the user and was as intuitive as possible.

Test

Through usability testing, I was able to refine the content that users found useful and completely change the content that they did not respond well. Users were asked to complete some scenario-based tasks to test the main functions of the application, and were asked how they felt about the application in general.

I wrote down both positive and negative feedback so that I know which areas need to be expanded and which ones need to be reworked.

The positive is that real-time voice reminders can help users grasp information in real time, so that users can react and respond in time.

Iterate

I made changes based on user feedback.

Summary

My biggest challenge is that I have encountered difficulties in information architecture. This is the first time that I have completed a relatively complete interaction design project independently. Through group cooperation, I have mastered many effective research methods, which helped me to successfully summarize the research report. Although I understand the user’s pain points and I have a clear direction to solve the problem, the construction of the logic framework of the entire app took me a lot of time. I have to repeatedly determine whether my system is reasonable and whether the conversion between each step is reasonable. It is logical that the overall use of this app can achieve the original intention of the design. After completing the information architecture, I made a low-fidelity wireframe and found some users to test it. Through the test feedback, I did have many shortcomings in the design. I spent a lot of time creating iterations for The user provides an easy-to-use app.
Although I can complete my design in the low-fidelity wireframe, it is still very useful to have a working knowledge of all the standards in the industry. I will continue to research in-depth on information architecture.
