The Museum of The Future
Background
In 2057 the science Museum will celebrate its bicentennial, but what role does the museum have in the future when increasingly we are using digital-based tech to access information? How will the museum function in 25 years?
Context
Explore speculative ideas around how a museum could reinvent the way it connects with the public.
Research
In the preliminary research, I thought about the eight questions asked by John, and researched some museums through field trips or the Internet.After that, I did a detailed research of the National Media and Science Museum.
Through my research, I identified three of my target user groups.Through my research, I identified three of my target user groups. They are Trips and Treats, Experience Seekers, Metroculturals.
The key problem is that there is not enough time or money, and most of the museum’s projects are not enough to attract their interest.In addition, some users reported that although they are happy to bring their children to visit and study, they sometimes want to experience and learn projects that are more suitable for their age.
Based on this, I think museums should pay attention to the user experience in addition to the functions of collection and exhibition.
The value and function of museums
Museums are not only places to store the past, but also atriums and forums for people. The focus of future museums is not on the country and politics, but on the daily life of individuals.
Idea
Following the human-centered design idea, I put forward a few ideas.
The first idea is about how to let users have a better viewing experience, and no longer limit visiting exhibitions to indoors, so that users can get a more free, more comfortable experience with more elements to guide the senses.
The second idea follows the people-oriented concept, taking the needs of people as the leading factor, and transforming the entire museum site into a more multifunctional space.And we must be committed to bringing users a better immersive experience.
This idea was improved after discussing the first two ideas with Danny. In addition to bringing users a better experience in terms of places and functions, I also thought about related future display forms, such as users can choose what they want. Visiting methods, such as VR virtual reality, interactive display combining projection generation and intelligent algorithms, and model installations that can be operated and learned by hands.

Insights
In the future museum project, I was too focused on the research on the future spatial function and new place form of the museum, and did not fully consider the design of different display forms for different types of museums. But I think my concept is in line with the future development trend. The museum is not only a place to store the past, but also an atrium and forum for people, where people can choose independently and experience through a variety of sensory synesthesia .
Another difficulty I encountered was that my ideas were always limited to existing technologies and lacked a sufficient outlook on future technologies.
